Another set of these lovely flowers. Glass is excellent to wear in summer weather - not only is the material safe and clean for sunscreened lobes, it also looks the best when the natural sunlight hits it. Have your favourite piercer order you a set! sales@getgorilla.com

Following Gorilla Glass onFacebook, you may have seen pictures and events focussed around The Gorilla Gallery.

The Gorilla Gallery, a concept of Gorilla Glass founder and jewelry designer Jason Pfohl, is an art gallery based in Oaxaca, Mexico with a focus on glass and ceramic artists working in Mexico.

Jason wanted to create an independent art space that would allow for interdisciplinary collaborations and exhibitions.  It is an inclusive space inviting sculptors, graphic artists, street artists, photographers, and body modification artists to experiment with glass and ceramics.

“The glass and ceramics are not a destination but a departure point for the artwork.” says Pfohl.

The Gorilla Gallery has had the opportunity to work with many younger, emerging artists in Oaxaca.  Using the Gorilla Glass production facility and print shop, young artists have been introduced to a new medium.

"It has allowed street  and body modification artists to show artwork within a gallery setting, giving them access to a different public.  The result has been an experimental and avantgarde art space that is willing to take risks and recognize new artistic disciplines.
For established glass and ceramic artists living in Mexico, it has given them a space to show their art work with installation and more conceptual pieces.” he explains.

Pfohl hopes the Gorilla Gallery will also become a destination for visiting international artists to help develop a cultural exchange of ideas and techniques.

One of the goals of the Gorilla Gallery is to invite body modification and suspension artists to show and perform their artwork in a serious gallery setting.  At the grand opening in 2012 there was a suspension performance by Jussi Paradise and Lucky Hell (with rigging by Jimmy Buddha of Diablo Organics).

Currently there is a print making collaboration between twenty international scarification artists and the the Gorilla Glass vitriography print shop.  The prints will be on display at the APP in Las Vegas and again at the Gorilla Gallery for Day of the Dead.  There will be an upcoming suspension and bondage performance by Samar and Midori.

The exhibits change every two months with smaller events featuring street artists painting on glass being showcased monthly.

The gallery is open on Thursdays from 2:00 until 8:00.
It is located at
213 Crestop, entre Morelos y Matamoros
Oaxaca, Oaxaca

Dichroic glass is a special glass type coated with layers of metal in a special vacuum chamber at high temperatures. Originally developed by NASA as a coating for space suits, it is now widely used in art glass. We recieve the dichroic

Dichroic glass reflects one color but transmits a second color, creating a shifting range of colors depending the angle of the light.”Dichroic glass are available as plugs, lagrimas, and finger rings. Jimmy Buddha Designs & Gorilla Glass Collaboration

Exciting news, friends. Check this out!

jimmybuddha:

The long awaited collaboration between Jimmy Buddha (owner of Diablo Organics) and Jason Pfohl (owner of Gorilla Glass) has finally take shape and will be unveiled at the APP 2012 in Las Vegas Nevada.  Here we will give you a sneak peak at what these two miscreants have come up with.
Jimmy Buddha’s “Dangle hook” concept and use of antique and vintage found materials is one of his signature lines, combining this with Gorilla Glass’ expertise in flame and cold worked glass is a joint project that will help take Body Jewelry to another level of mixed materials and design.

”It still amazes me how much energy and time it takes to come up with
fresh and new ideas, even of what seems to be such a simple concept.”

       -Jimmy Buddha

For sometime the two have been letting the idea of a collaboration percolate.  On their most recent joint tour through Europe the creative spark that was needed presented itself.  Picking through the littered tables of junk in Barcelona’s famous “Mercat Del Encants” the two came across a pile of 19th century faceted glass pendant shapes from what were once grand chandeliers that graced the great halls of a bygone era.  A treasure among heaps of trash.  After some furious negotiation
and the two white boys amusing the local Catalan dealers with their decidedly fluent Castillano lingual abilities they were off to the drawing board with their new bag of tricks.
Now after months in there respective workshops….Diablo Organics Bali and Gorilla Glass Oaxaca, the project has been realized.  With the same quality of craftsmanship and reputation for original design Jimmy Buddha and Gorilla Glass provide a glimpse of their 2012 collaboration:  The Chandelier Collection………..
